ToIP Foundational Document Update Task Force

ToIP Foundational Document Update Task Force

Introduction and Links

This is an All-Member Task Force, proposed to begin in May 2025, whose mission is to produce updated versions of our five foundational ToIP documents:

  1. Introduction to ToIP — 2022 version

  2. Design Principles for the ToIP Stack — 2022 version

  3. ToIP Technical Architecture Specification2022 version, 2025 version (still in progress)

  4. ToIP Governance Architecture Specification2022 version

  5. ToIP Glossary2025 version (still in progress)

The task force will also supervise an update to the ToIP website once all documents are complete.

Timeline

This will be a major effort — the first four foundational documents comprise over 100 pages of content and the ToIP Glossary already contains over 500 term definitions. The proposed timeline:

  1. Work will commence with an organizational meeting in early May 2025.

  2. All updates should be completed by early September 2025.

  3. The complete set of documents should be ready for publication on the updated ToIP website prior to the ToIP Five Year Anniversary Showcase currently in planning for September or October 2025.

Planned Revisions

The revisions will include all of the following:

  1. Bringing all of content current, including adding references to new ToIP specs (e.g., TSP, TRQP) and other ToIP deliverables.

  2. Use the revised ToIP logo.

  3. Use the third-generation ToIP stack diagrams.

  4. Updating all boilerplate text to reference that ToIP is a now project under LF Decentralized Trust.

  5. Fully integrating the ToIP Glossary, using Spec-Up-T (see below) for links and pop-up definitions of all defined terms.

  6. Adding a standard introductory header to all five documents with links to the other four.

Tooling

The ToIP Technology Architecture Specification and the ToIP Glossary are already Spec-Up-T Markdown documents in GitHub. The others will be converted into Markdown and use the Spec-Up-T editor to add links to the ToIP Glossary. However, no expertise in either Markdown or Spec-Up-T is required to contribute to this Task Force; it is open to any ToIP member who wishes to help update these five foundational documents.
