Update on Spec-Up-T

@Henk van Cann

Henk reported that he hired Chris Henning as CTO to help guiide the development of Spec-Up-T, which is now being used to manage at least four major glossaries. He explained to Martina that Spec-Up-T is a version-control system for managing terminologies/glossaries for specifications and other structured documents. It can also help establish links and promote harmonization across glossaries in multiple documents and projects.

Henk covered the following new Spec-Up-T features:

  • They have standardized the “key” for each glossary entry.

  • They have made the index file produced by Spec-Up-T much smaller.

  • They have standardized refs and xrefs and trefs and how links in trefs are followed.

  • They are also going to build support for multiple languages using AI agents. These translations can be overruled by a human editor if necessary.

Carly pointed out that in Switzerland, which uses 4 languages, the German was the official version. She also talked about how metadata was used to map terms between different languages, including scores for how close the ontological mapping is.
